A well-rounded social media marketing strategy is an absolute requirement if you’re serious about making a success out of your business. However, as is the case with other aspects of marketing, there’s a fine art to doing it correctly.

Keep the following tips in mind as you build your own company’s social media presence for best results.

Clarify Your Goals and Objectives

If you don’t know where you’re going, you won’t know when you get there. Start by not only clearly defining attainable, measurable goals, but writing them down. Identify how exactly you’ll know you’ve reached your goals as well (e.g. numbers, stats, milestones, and deadlines).

You’ll also want to take a long, hard look at where your company is currently as far as its online presence goes. Have you already established successful accounts on all of the major platforms? If not, are you posting the right things often enough? Is your content doing a good job of engaging your target audience? Where could you stand to improve a few things?

Brainstorm and Create Winning Content

Even a successful social media presence could always be better. Figure out where to target your own efforts by doing a little research into what’s working for others in your industry, what’s not, and why. Really take the time to get to know current trends and follow ongoing conversations. Also, imagine you’re a member of target demographic. How does such a person use social media? What type of content do they enjoy, when are they online, and what can your company do to get their attention?

Once you’ve figured that out, it’s time to craft quality content that will actually help you connect to your would-be customers. You can do this by:

  • Coming up with clever, timely pieces that will get the right people talking about you at the right times.
  • Finetuning your content to suit the format of each platform you use. What makes a post go viral on Facebook may not work at all on Twitter or Instagram and vice versa.
  • Being personable, interesting, informative, and entertaining all at once.

Monitor and Recalibrate

Once you’ve decided on a social media marketing strategy to adopt, keep careful records of how each post actually performs. Use what you learn to make sure each subsequent attempt to reach out is better and more effective than the last. The key to ultimate success is to keep posting, assessing, and revamping on a continual basis. Trends and tastes change over time, so your marketing strategy should too.
